Finally Speakers! At 34 years old (he will turn 35 on February 19), at the two hundredth World Cup race, 15 years after his debut, Mattia can unleash the scream: the super-G in Val Gardena is his. It is the first success in his career, at the end of a perfect race, to break a fast in the specialty that had lasted for Italy since March 2019, when Paris won in Soldeu. Casse – first in 1’28″23 – triumphed with a one hundredth advantage over the American Goldberg. Marco Odermatt, king of the Cup and master of the specialty in recent seasons, finishes at over 4 tenths of a second (3rd at 43/100). Norwegian Moeller, at 54/100 ahead of the Swiss Rogentin and the Canadian Alexander, joint fifth (at 57/100).
the race

In a very fast super-G designed by the Norwegian coach Anderson, Mattia did nothing wrong, very fast and precise in the key passages. Confirming the sensations during testing, when like many times in the past he was always among the fastest. But unlike previous years, this time he confirmed himself in the race: “At the beginning I said to myself: I’d better wake up – he declared to Rai microphones -. I was skiing well in training, this is the proof”. And after three third places and a last season without high notes, he can finally celebrate.
After the not so brilliant trip to Beaver Creek, Paris is tenth (at 77/100 from Casse) despite an error on the floor, and eleventh is Pietro Zazzi (at 97/100). Nicolò Molteni is sixteenth at 1″36.
the descent tomorrow
—
The race was interrupted after the fall of the Austrian Danklmaier. There was no shortage of surprises: Frenchman Sarrazin was out, having been second to Beaver behind Odermatt in the first super-G of the season: the Frenchman first took a big risk on a jump and then was unable to stay on the track. Tomorrow the descent is scheduled in Val Gardena, then the Italian World Cup event continues with giant slalom and slalom in Alta Badia.
