Marquette, MI – A quick-moving band of lake-effect snow showers is creating hazardous conditions across Marquette and Alger counties this morning. Snowfall rates of up to one inch per hour are possible, significantly reducing visibility and making roads slick, particularly along M-28 and US-41.
According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snowfall will pass through the area by 10 a.m. Friday, with scattered snow showers lingering into the afternoon. Drivers are urged to exercise caution during the morning commute, as sudden visibility drops and icy conditions may occur.
The weekend outlook shows temperatures falling to a high of 16°F Saturday, with wind chill values dipping near zero. Snow showers are expected Saturday afternoon, with a 40% chance of accumulation. Sunday brings calmer weather with partly sunny skies and highs around 27°F.
Looking ahead to Monday, snow showers will return, bringing the potential for fresh accumulation across the region. Temperatures will climb slightly into the mid-30s by Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, with mostly sunny skies expected.
Residents should prepare for shifting conditions throughout the weekend, including frigid wind chills and icy roadways. Keep updated on weather developments and consider limiting travel during peak snowfall.
