Believe it or not, they’ve already made a third Sonic movie—aka, Sonic the Hedgehog 3—and it’s opening in theaters this weekend. Time flies when you don’t have kids!
Directed by Jeff Folwer—who also directed 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog and its 2022 sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2—this movie sees the return of everyone’s favorite animated hedgehog. Based on the video game series from Sega, Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) teams up with his old buddies Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba) and Tails (voiced by Colleen O’Shaughnessey) to face a new enemy, the ominous Shadow the Hedgehog (voiced by Keanu Reeves).
Jim Carrey, of course, is back as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, as is James Marsden as Sonic’s adoptive father. If you have young ones, Sonic 3 is a fine option for keeping the kids quiet for 90 minutes during this holiday season. Where to watch the Sonic 3 movie:
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will only be available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S. on Friday, December 20. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Is Sonic the Hedgehog 3 streaming on Netflix?
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is not streaming on Netflix, and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Paramount Pictures release. Almost all Paramount movies go to Paramount’s streaming platform, Paramount+.
Is Sonic 3 streaming on Disney Plus?
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is not streaming on Disney+, and will not be on Disney+ any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Paramount release and not a Disney movie. Not every animated movie is a Disney movie! If you want to watch Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on Paramount+.
Is Sonic the Hedgehog 3 streaming on Paramount+?
The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Paramount+ streaming date has not yet been announced. Right now, the movie is only in theaters. That said, we do expect to see Sonic 3 streaming on Paramount+ eventually, but we’re not sure when. Another recent Paramount film, Transformers Onewas released in theaters on September 20; released on digital platforms one month after opening in theaters, on October 22; and began streaming on Paramount+ about two months after opening in theaters, on November 15.
If Sonic 3 follows a similar release pattern, you might see the movie on digital around late January 2025, and streaming on Paramount+ around late February 2025.
But this is all speculation. If you want to watch Sonic 3 right away, you can catch the movie in theaters.
