OPERATIONS. 617 TURNING TO YOUR WEATHER RIGHT NOW, IT IS AN IMPACT DAY ON THIS THURSDAY MORNING AS WE ARE BRACING FOR OUR FIRST SHOVEL WORTHY SNOW OF THE SEASON. YEAH, IT’S GOING TO BE NOT A LOT, BUT IT’S THE FIRST ONE, SO IT ALWAYS KIND OF CATCHES PEOPLE A LITTLE BY SURPRISE. WE’VE ONLY HAD 0.9IN SO FAR THIS DECEMBER YOU KNOW. SO WE ARE BELOW AVERAGE IN ANY GIVEN DECEMBER WE GET ABOUT TEN INCHES. SO YOU CAN SEE THAT’S WHERE THE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IS COMING FROM. IT IS STRETCHING SNOW FROM EASTERN MINNESOTA RIGHT ALONG 3990 IN MADISON. KIND OF GETTING UP INTO THE DELLS. THAT’S KIND OF WHERE IT IS RIGHT NOW. THE TIMING IS STILL VERY SOLID. I DON’T EXPECT IT TO REALLY MAKE AN APPEARANCE IN THE MILWAUKEE AREA UNTIL ABOUT 8 OR 9:00. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES IN THE PURPLE WINTER STORM WARNINGS IN THE PINK THERE. THIS IS WHERE YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE THE MOST INTENSE BANDS OF SNOW FALLING, AND THERE’S REALLY NO BREAKS HERE FOR US. WE DO GET SOME BREAKS IN THE ACTION, WHICH IS WHY OUR TOTALS ARE A LITTLE BIT LOWER. BUT HERE’S THE TIMING. THIS SNOW IS GOING TO MOVE IN AND IT WILL BE VERY LIGHT ON ONSET, AND IT’S GOING TO STAY LIGHT THROUGH ABOUT NOON. THERE WILL BE BREAKS IN THE ACTION THROUGHOUT THE AFTERNOON. AND YOU AT SOME POINT YOU MIGHT EVEN LOOK OUTSIDE AND IT WON’T EVEN BE SNOWING. AND YOU MIGHT BE THINKING, WELL, WHAT ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT? IT PICKS UP, THOUGH, AFTER 4 OR 5:00. THEN IT REALLY RAMPS UP AS THE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE GETS CLOSER. AND BECAUSE OF THAT, THAT’S WHEN WE WILL LIKELY HAVE SNOW COVERED ROADS AND SLICK SPOTS. AND THAT’S GOING TO BE PRETTY NASTY FOR THE EVENING RUSH. SO JUST ANTICIPATED EITHER TAKING LONGER FOR YOU TO GET HOME OR TRY TO LEAVE IT EARLIER THE BETTER, BECAUSE THE LONGER IT GOES, THE WORSE THE ROADS ARE GOING TO GET. THE SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO BE HEAVY DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS, WHICH WILL LIKELY HAVE IMPACTS FOR FRIDAY MORNING, AND THE MODERATE SNOW WILL THEN END EARLY IN THE MORNING WITH SOME LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS POSSIBLE THROUGH THE EARLY AFTERNOON. SO THE ROAD CONDITIONS TODAY YOU’RE STARTING GOOD DRY ROADS RIGHT NOW. IT’S FABULOUS. BY MIDDAY WE’RE STARTING TO GET THAT LIGHT TO STEADY SNOW. THERE COULD BE SLUSHY SPOTS AS WELL. WE’RE TALKING A HEAVY WET TYPE OF SNOW, SO THAT’S WHY IT’S NOT GOING TO HAVE A HUGE IMPACT RIGHT AWAY. BUT THEN IT WILL PICK UP. THE VISIBILITY WILL DROP. SO THAT’S GOING TO MAKE IT TOUGH FOR THAT EVENING RUSH. AND MOST AREAS AGAIN THIS IS SHOVEL WORTHY SNOW. IT’S THE HARDEST TO SHOVEL BECAUSE IT’S HEAVY BUT IT’S THE EASIEST TO DRIVE ON. OCONOMOWOC RIGHT NOW. PRETTY COLD ACTUALLY 19 DEGREES RIGHT NOW. BUT IF YOU LOOK AT OTHER AREAS, LIKE IN SHEBOYGAN SITTING AT ABOUT 20, WHERE SHEBOYGAN IS GOING TO GET THE MOST AMOUNT OF SNOW DURING THIS EVENT, AND THEN IN MILWAUKEE RIGHT NOW, WE’RE ACTUALLY SITTING IN THE UPPER 20S. SO THERE’S BIG DIFFERENCES TEMPERATURE WISE, AND THAT WILL CHANGE THE SNOW TYPE AS WELL. THE COLDER YOU ARE, THE LESS MOISTURE YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE MORE OF THE FLUFFY. IN MILWAUKEE, I’M THINKING IT’S MORE OF THE WET STUFF. AND YOU CAN SEE THAT PICKS UP HEADING INTO THAT EIGHT 9:00 HOUR. AND IT WILL BE VERY SPORADIC THROUGHOUT THE DAY. YOU CAN SEE IT RIGHT HERE. YOU SEE THESE LITTLE BREAKS IN THE ACTION. THAT WILL LIKELY BE THE CASE THROUGHOUT THE AFTERNOON. BUT WATCH WHAT HAPPENS. THAT LOW BRINGS IN THE MOISTURE AND THEN EVERYTHING FILLS IN WITH SOME HEAVY, INTENSE BANDS AT TIMES. I DO STILL THINK THERE WILL BE SOME MIXING GOING ON, BUT THEN ONCE WE GET COLD ENOUGH, I DO THINK THAT WRAPAROUND SNOW CHANGES EVERYBODY TO THAT HEAVY, WET SNOW AND WILL LIKELY START TO SEE THOSE LAKE EFFECT BANDS KIND OF SET UP RIGHT THERE THROUGH THE EARLY AFTERNOON. THIS IS A WET TYPE OF SNOW THAT TURNS TO NEAR NORMAL AS THE OVERNIGHT GOES ON. THAT’S ENOUGH FOR SNOW BLOWERS FOR SURE. SO I WOULD SAY WHEN YOU GET HOME, GET A LAYER UP, THEN IN THE MORNING YOU CAN GET ANOTHER LAYER UP, AND BY NOON WE’RE BASICALLY GOING TO BE DONE TOMORROW. AND THEN YOU CAN GET ALL THE REST OF IT UP. AND I WOULD DO IT. I WOULD GO AHEAD AND DO THAT BECAUSE WE WILL HAVE OVERNIGHT LOWS THAT ARE BELOW FREEZING, AND THAT WOULD ALLOW FOR IT NOT TO HAVE A REFREEZE SITUATION. THE SNOWFALL FORECAST, I’VE BEEN SHOWING IT SINCE YESTERDAY AT 11. WE UPDATED IT WITH THAT NEW BAND OF THAT 4 TO 6, AND THAT’S BECAUSE THE LAKE EFFECT AND THE INTENSITY OF THE SNOW IS GOING TO BE HIGHER NEAR SHEBOYGAN, PORT WASHINGTON, WEST BEND, 2 TO 4 FOR THE MILWAUKEE AREA AND THEN 1 TO 2 FURTHER SOUTH. SO THIS IS OUR FIRST SHOVEL WORTHY SNOW OF THE SEASON. GET IT READY TO GO CHECK ON YOUR NEIGHBORS AGAIN. IT’S THE HEAVY, WET TYPE OF SNOW. SO THAT IS THE TOUGHEST TO SHOVEL. STILL, NOT EVEN WINTER THOUGH. SO TECHNICALLY IT’S ON SATURDAY, SO GOODBYE FALL.
