Two departments have been placed on orange alert by Météo- for violent winds from Friday December 20, the weather forecast institute announced this Thursday December 19. These are Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud.

A “violent gale” is expected in Corsica, Météo-France announced this Thursday.

Strong gusts of wind, up to 100 and 120 km/h, are expected on the Isle of Beauty during the night from Thursday to Friday and during the day on Friday, with the arrival of storm Dionisio.

Up to 180 km/h at Cap Corse

Strong winds from the West are expected during the night from Thursday to Friday, particularly in the “second part of the night”, with gusts between “90 and 100 km/h”, according to Météo-France.

Peaks of up to 140 km/h are expected in Balagne, in the northwest of Corsica, and even locally up to 180 km/k in Cap Corse.

The phenomenon is expected to continue throughout the day on Friday, after “gradually easing on Friday afternoon” and “disappearing in the evening”.

Strong gusts of wind are also expected to hit Languedoc-Roussillon, the Alps and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur overnight from Thursday to Friday, with some showers expected in the Pyrenees region.
