Since September 2024, Paramount+ has offered a new version of Zorrowith Jean Dujardin in the role of the masked vigilante who signs a “Z” with the point of his sword.
At 52 years old, the actor lends his features to Don Diego de la Vega in a series of eight episodes, co-created by Noé Debré (Parliament) and Benjamin Charbit (Under control).
This adaptation revisits the myth of the legendary hero by exploring unexpected facets of his intimacy, notably his fight against schizophrenia. A bold reinvention that promises to redefine this iconic character.
Jean Dujardin: a dream that finally comes true
In full promotion of this new project, Jean Dujardin and his co-star Audrey Dana have been conducting interviews for several months.
This Wednesday, December 18, 2024, they were the exceptional guests of Anne-Élisabeth Lemoine on the set of It’s up to you. The opportunity for the two acolytes to explore in detail behind the scenes of the series, while tackling more personal subjects.
Jean Dujardin, visibly moved, confided his pride in playing such an emblematic hero, especially at this stage of his career.
“We don’t take a risk by saying: ‘I’m going to do Zorro’ because we know that it will never happen. And then one day, there’s a guy who calls you, in this case, it’s your brother, and who says: ‘we can do it’. There, he sets everything in motion with Benjamin Charbit and Noé Debré.“
Zorro: a hero “cuckolded by himself”
His brother, producer Marc Dujardin, allowed him to realize his dream. Since their childhood, the latter has always witnessed Jean’s obsession with the masked vigilante.
The actor even received the Zorro costume more than six times at Christmasa sign of his adoration for the hero.
Today, happier than ever to slip into the skin of Don Diego de la Vega, he is particularly delighted with this audacious interpretation and “a bit of vaudeville“.
In this version, Zorro is also “cuckold by himself” since his wife cheats on him with her alter ego. A surprising twist that adds new depth to the famous character.
