Departure of PSG from Parc des Princes: Paris SG explores new avenues for its future stadium
A new step could be taken in the project to build a new stadium for Paris Saint-Germain, whose future at the Parc des Princes is uncertain. According to The Parisianthe leaders of the capital’s club paid a visit to the old Ris-Orangis racecourse, in Essonne, this Wednesday. This 100-hectare site could accommodate the future PSG sports complex, including a stadium, shops and hotels.
The objective is to create a living space around football, where fans could meet before, during and after matches. However, the location of this site, around twenty kilometers from Paris and around thirty from the Parc des Princes, raises questions. Some see it as a maneuver to encourage Paris town hall to review its position on the renewal of the lease for the Parc des Princes.
Indeed, a move by Paris Saint-Germain so far from the city center could lead to fierce opposition from the club’s historic supporters. Carrying out such a project would be complex and would require obtaining numerous building permits. In addition, the distance from the city center could pose transport problems for supporters and generate additional costs.
For the moment, the future of the Parc des Princes remains uncertain. Discussions between PSG and Paris town hall are still ongoing. The visit to the Ris-Orangis site shows that the club is exploring all options to ensure its long-term development.
