Nobody expected this: the CEO of Raiffeisen Switzerland is going to the Graubündner Kantonalbank. He will take over the office of president there in the summer of 2025.
The Graubünden government has Heinz Huber elected as the new President of the Graubündner Kantonalbank (GKB). He follows up Peter Fanconi and will take office on July 1, 2025, according to a statement on Wednesday. The search for a successor has begun at Raiffeisen.
Huber took over the management of Raiffeisen Switzerland in January 2019 as Chairman of the Management Board. Back then he had Patrik Giselor the interim CEO Michael Auer replaced. After the scandal involving ex-CEO Pierin Vincenz, Huber has led the cooperative banking group back into calmer waters over the past six years.
Proven experience in the financial industry
Heinz Huber was chosen because of his many years of proven experience in the financial industry, the statement continues.
Before moving to Raiffeisen, he was chairman and member of the executive board of the Thurgauer Kantonalbank for a long time. Huber learned the banking business from the ground up with a banking apprenticeship at UBS.
The 60-year-old is particularly connected to Graubünden through his second home, writes the GKB.
The current bank president Fanconi had already announced his resignation in July 2024. To ensure a seamless transition, he will continue to serve as bank president until the end of June 2025.
Succession search initiated at Raiffeisen
According to a statement from Raiffeisen Christian PoerschkeHead of the Finance and Services Department and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board, will take over the role of Chairman on an interim basis on January 1, 2025.
