The Undertaker had to be convinced to be part of a historic occasion at WrestleMania.
In the main event of night two of WrestleMania XL, Cody Rhodes faced off against Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Because The Rock had pinned Rhodes the night before in tag team action, the title match was contested under Bloodline Rules, making interference completely legal in the bout.
Though Reigns had plenty of help from members of The Bloodline, Cody Rhodes also had assistance to help even the score. John Cena, The Undertaker, and Seth Rollins all interfered in the match on Rhodes’ behalf, and in the end, Rhodes was able to pin Roman Reigns to finish his story and capture the top prize in WWE.
The Rock Had To Call The Undertaker To Convince Him To Take Part In WrestleMania
Speaking in a new interview with The Roommates Show, Triple H opened up about The Undertaker’s cameo at WrestleMania, revealing that it was difficult to convince The Deadman to take part in the match after his retirement in 2020.
“It took us forever to get him to do that thing. A lot of that stuff comes together in the tail end. When I first called him for it, he’s like, ‘I don’t know. I don’t think I want to do it.’ I’m like, ‘80,000 people are going to go absolutely insane.’
It took us a little bit. Rock had to call him. Everybody had to call him to get him to finally acquiesce to do it. When he retired, he sort of wanted, ‘I’m just done.’ He didn’t come out with the hat and jacket. The hat and jacket are retired. ‘I’ll come out as me, but I’m not coming out as Undertaker.’ He just wanted it to be over.”
Shortly after WrestleMania XL, The Undertaker reflected on his part in the match and praised Roman Reigns’ record-breaking run as champion.
