RAID, an elite unit of the French National Police, was mobilized into a Traveler camp on Tuesday December 17 2024 to Ploemeur (Morbihan), near Lorient.
What is the reason for this intervention?
As Ouest-France reveals and as a police source confirms to us, the police and the RAID intervened in a Traveler camp shortly after 11:30 a.m.
“For this type of sensitive intervention, we can send the RAID,” the police source tells us.
For what reason? During the night from Monday to Tuesday, violence took place in the bar “Le Monroe” in Lorient. Several people were injured. The police are dispatched to the scene. During the chase, shots are fired towards the police.
Significant resources mobilized
A large-scale operation was carried out the next day: police officers in around ten vehicles, police motorcyclists and the RAID. The mayor of Ploemeur warned his population:
A special operation is currently being carried out by the National Police and the RAID on Boulevard François Mitterrand, concerning a site illegally occupied by Travelers.
Two people have been arrested after the searches. A weapon was seized.
