A 57-year-old woman died in an industrial accident in Veurne on Tuesday morning. This happened when, as a cleaning lady in a custom-made company, she received a stack of pallets with insulation on her. “They had fallen from a forklift. But what exactly happened is still being investigated,” the labor auditor said. The tragic facts would have been filmed.
The facts happened on Tuesday morning at 10 am in a customization company in Werkplaatsstraat in Veurne. The 57-year-old woman from Nieuwpoort worked in the company as a cleaning lady. “At one point she became buried under a pile of insulation pallets that had fallen from a forklift,” explains Sofie Heyndrickx of the labor auditor.
“There was no further help available and the woman died on the spot. Those responsible for the sheltered workshop notified the emergency services, after which the police conducted an investigation. We were also notified and sent the Welfare at Work Supervision Service to the scene. The necessary interrogations were conducted. Now we examine whether any errors have been made and whether conclusions can be drawn from them. It is still too early for that.”
Two sons
Allegedly, the facts were filmed in the customization company. The woman was working there as a cleaning lady and was said to have been working on the back of a rack. A forklift truck placed a stack of pallets with insulation at the front of that rack, but one of the stacks was said to have been pushed too far. Then the stack fell from the rack onto the woman. She didn’t survive that.
Further research should now provide more clarity. The victim lived in Nieuwpoort and leaves behind two sons. They received assistance from the victim assistance service. Colleagues from the sheltered workshop also received assistance.
