After KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja also brought up a fine half-century as India continue their fight to save the third Test in Brisbane.
Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja peeled off a fighting half-century to keep India’s hopes of not losing the Brisbane Test to Australia alive on the fourth day. Jadej reached the 22nd Test fifty of his career during the second session on Tuesday which was delayed by rain break.
Jadeja got to the milestone with single off the fifth delivery of the 50th over, bowled by Mitchell Starc and followed that with his trademark sword celebration.
India are fighting to save the Brisbane Test after enduring a top-order collapse.
After losing captain Rohit Sharma, India found themselves in deep trouble at 74/5 but KL Rahul and Jadeja joined forces to revive the innings. The pair added 67 runs for the sixth wicket before Rahul was dismissed on 84 thanks to a stunning one-handed diving catch from Steve Smith at first slip. That brought allrounder Nitish Reddy to the middle and he got off the mark with a boundary.
The five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy is currently locked at one-all. India took the lead with a big 295-run win in Perth before Australia bounced back with a 10-wicket win in the day-night Test held at the Adelaide Oval.
The third Test saw India skipper Rohit opting to bowl first and riding on brilliant hundreds from Travis Head (152) and Steve Smith (101), the reigning world Test champions made 445-all out in their first dig.
Indian batters disappointed again as the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Rohit managed 27 runs between them with Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins landing two blows each.
Rain though has dented Australia’s hopes as it has interrupted the play several times in Brisbane. The forecast for Day 4 was better but there have already been three rain-forced breaks.
