GOING TO BE CLOSE TO 70 TOMORROW. NOW WE ARE GETTING CLOSE TO THAT TIME OF THE YEAR WHERE EVERYBODY, EVERYWHERE I GO ASKS, ARE WE GOING TO HAVE SNOW FOR CHRISTMAS? NOW? HEARING THE S WORD CAN OFTEN BRING ALL KIND OF EMOTIONS, RIGHT? ESPECIALLY THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. METEOROLOGIST SYDNEY SULLIVAN JOINS US WITH PERSPECTIVE, LIVE AND LOCAL, WITH THE ONLY PLACE IN THE UPSTATE YOU CAN FIND A LITTLE BIT OF THE WHITE STUFF AROUND, RIGHT? SYDNEY. THAT’S RIGHT. CHRIS. THEY’RE TAKING A BRIEF BREAK ON THE ICE RINK RIGHT NOW, BUT IT’S BEEN SO FUN TO SEE EVERYONE OUT AND ABOUT ENJOYING SOME OF THE FUN THINGS THAT HAPPEN THIS TIME OF YEAR, BUT WITH A BLANKET OF SNOW, IT COULD MAKE THE SEASON EVEN MORE MAGICAL. NOW, ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND ACROSS THE NATION, THERE ARE SEVERAL SPOTS THAT ARE NO STRANGER TO SNOW, EVEN FOR CHRISTMAS. THE FURTHER NORTH YOU GO, THOSE ODDS DO TEND TO INCREASE, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU FACTOR IN ELEVATION. LIKE THE ROCKIES. BUT A BLANKET OF SNOW CHRISTMAS MORNING ISN’T TOO FAR FETCHED FOR PORTIONS OF THE NORTHEAST AS WELL. NOW THE CHANCES, OF COURSE, DO DECREASE IN A BIG WAY THE FURTHER SOUTH YOU GO. WE’RE TALKING LESS THAN 25% FOR WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA, BUT HEY, THAT’S AT LEAST A CHANCE THERE. AND LESS THAN 5% ELSEWHERE ACROSS OUR REGION. BUT EVEN WITH THOSE LOW CHANCES OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS, MANY ARE STILL ANXIOUS TO SEE SOME FLAKES SNOW. I JUST FEEL LIKE IT BRINGS SO MUCH JOY, LIKE IT’S SO GOOD FOR THE KIDS. AND I DON’T KNOW, I LOVE IT. OUR CHILDHOOD MEMORIES ARE OF SNOW AND SLEDDING, AND WE HAVEN’T SEEN THAT IN A LONG TIME. YES, WE NEED SNOW THIS YEAR. IT’S CHRISTMAS. THAT’S RIGHT, IT WOULD BE TRULY A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS TO SEE SOME SNOW. BUT I WILL SAY, EVEN THOUGH IT’S NOT NECESSARILY COMMON, THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL YEARS WHERE THERE HAS IN FACT BEEN A WHITE CHRISTMAS SINCE THE 60S. UPSTATE FAMILIES HAVE SEEN A WINTER WONDERLAND TWICE. IN 1962 AND IN 2010. AND THANK GOODNESS FOR OUR BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAINS. THAT ALSO HELPS TO BRING AT LEAST A HIGHER CHANCE OF SEEING A LITTLE BIT OF SNOW ACROSS WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA, WHICH THEY HAVE IN FACT SEEN THAT SEVEN TIMES SINCE THE 60S. SO THERE IS CERTAINLY STILL A CHANCE. BUT I WILL SAY CHRIS AND I WERE TRACKING THIS A LITTLE BIT EARLIER THIS AFTERNOON, AND IT IS LOOKING LIKE A VERY LOW CHANCE AT THIS POINT. IN FACT, TRENDING A LITTLE BIT WARMER. BUT STAY TUNED. WE WILL KEEP YOU POSTED ON THAT FORECAST. BUT LIVE HERE I
