the essential
A 22-year-old young man was arrested after a series of five murders near in the North, affecting profiles with no apparent connection: a former employer, two security agents and two migrants. If the suspect admitted the facts, his motivations remain unclear, plunging investigators into a case that is currently incomprehensible.

A case that has nothing to envy of those that we can see in series. Saturday December 14, 2024, a 22-year-old man was arrested after a series of murders, in the North near Dunkirk. The man left behind five victims and many unanswered questions. If the suspect admitted the facts, his motive remains unclear and the people killed apparently have no links between them. A look back at a quintuple murder with totally incomprehensible motivations at this stage of the investigation.

A link of subordination with the first victim

The first victim, a 29-year-old man, managed a road transport company and was the suspect's former employer. According to the latter's lawyer, Me Véronique Planckeel, her client harbored resentment towards this man. However, the exact reasons for this animosity remain unclear. “We do not know how the employment contract was terminated,” she specifies, leaving doubt about the suspect’s deep motivations.

Two security guards killed with no apparent connection

Nearly an hour after this first homicide, two security agents were killed at their workplace in Loon-Plage, on the outskirts of Dunkirk. One of them was apparently known by sight to the suspect, but no direct relationship or clear reason has yet been established.

Two murdered migrants: a total mystery

The mystery deepens further with the murder of two migrants, probably of Iranian nationality, near a nearby camp. No link between the suspect and these victims has yet been identified, and the lawyer herself concedes that there is “no explanation” for these last two crimes.

A confusing profile

The suspect, unknown to the police and justice services before this case, went himself to the Ghyvelde gendarmerie after the incident. Placed in police custody, he appears “calm, very calm” according to his lawyer. However, Me Planckeel is not sure that he “really understands the consequences of his actions” or that he “knows what to answer” to investigators.

An investigation that begins with uncertainty

Firearms were found in the suspect's vehicle, reinforcing the serious charges against him. An investigation has been opened for “murders preceded, accompanied or followed by another crime” and “violations of weapons legislation” and police custody could extend until Wednesday December 18 due to the complexity of the facts .

Despite these numerous elements, the real motive behind this series of crimes remains unknown to this day, leaving investigators facing a wall. The manner in which these murders came about and the possible psychological or contextual triggers remain to be elucidated.
