Celtic’s win over Rangers in the League Cup solidifies the Parkhead club’s status as Scotland’s most successful club.
Ever since Celtic rebuilt under Martin O’Neill in season 1999/00, the Parkhead club have ruled over Scottish football with an iron fist.
But not only that, since that time Celtic have faced Rangers 107 times in the Glasgow Derby, winning 56, drawing 16 and losing just 35.
And after Celtic beat Rangers again at Hampden it seems that Philippe Clement holds a record he most certainly will not want on his managerial CV.
Philippe Clement’s failure to beat Celtic crowns Rangers boss with unwanted record
After Celtic beat Rangers in the League Cup final, Clement now holds the record as the manager with the longest streak without a win over the Parkhead side.
The last time Rangers went six games against Celtic without a win was during World War I under William Walton from 1912 to 1914.
In six attempts, Clement has drawn just one game and lost five as the Rangers boss oversees the longest winless period that any Ibrox boss has resided over since then.
As the pressure piles on the Ibrox boss, Brendan Rodgers will enjoy his tenth trophy as the Celtic manager and his 16th win out of 20 fixtures against Rangers as the Hoops boss.
Celtic’s dominance over Rangers is clear looking at recent Ibrox managers’ record
Celtic’s dominance over Rangers in the Glasgow Derby has never been so prominent. Despite an apparent resurgence under Steven Gerrard, the cold hard facts remain that over the last 24 years, Celtic’s trophy history is really impressive.
Out of 72 domestic trophies, the Hoops have won 41 of those since the year 2000 and when you look at the recent record of Rangers managers against Celtic in the Glasgow Derby, it’s really easy to see why the Parkhead club have been rampant.
Rangers manager | Played | Won | Drew | Lost |
Philippe Clement | 6 | 0 | 1 | 5 |
Michael Beale | 6 | 1 | 1 | 4 |
Giovanni van Bronckhorst | 5 | 1 | 1 | 3 |
Steven Gerrard | 12 | 7 | 1 | 4 |
Pedro Caixinha | 3 | 0 | 0 | 3 |
Mark Warburton | 4 | 1 | 0 | 3 |
Ally McCoist | 4 | 2 | 0 | 2 |
With at least another three Glasgow Derbies to go this season, Celtic and Rodgers could pile more misery on our rivals before this season ends.
