On borrowed time for very long weeks, Thierry Laurey offered himself a little respite thanks to Martigues' draw at Amiens. Finally, the recent setback against Troyes (4-0) will have decided the Martégal club to part ways with its coach.
The red lantern of Ligue 2 tries its best
Appointed last July to take over from Gregory Poirierleft to coach Red Star, Thierry Laurey did not even last six months. The fault lies in a catastrophic course with only 9 points after 16 days and only 1 victory in the last 14 matches. The former coach of Strasbourg and Paris FC was officially suspended from his duties this Monday, December 16.
“It is a decision that I fully accept, which is part of the ongoing reflection on the functioning of the professional group, in the interest of FC Martigues. We will take stock of the situation with Thierry Laurey, before a final decision”explains Pierre Wantiez, the president of Martigues, on the club's official website.
This decision is anything but a surprise, as Thierry Laurey was criticized internally for management deemed unsuitable. This notably led to the unexpected departure of Jérémy Aymes, goalkeeper of the rise, for Cannes in National 2. Pending the appointment of a new coach, Ibrahim Rachidi will act as interim on the Martégal bench. As a reminder, Martigues is prohibited from recruiting during the next winter transfer window.
