Geneviève Darrieussecq, resigning Minister of Health and Access to Care, was the guest of the “4 Vs” on Monday, two days after the passage of Cyclone Chido in Mayotte.
After Cyclone Chido passed through Mayotte on Saturday December 14, the prefect of Mayotte said he expected hundreds of deaths, or even more. “It does not seem appropriate to me to give figures, because we do not know. Let us wait until we have an assessment which will perhaps increase”specifies Geneviève Darrieussecq, resigning Minister of Health, guest of “4 V” on Monday.
Some parts of Mayotte are still inaccessible. “We have a situation that is very degraded, with a hospital that has been badly damaged and medical centers that are inoperable”indicates the minister. The hospital continues to operate, but has suffered “significant water damage (…) particularly in the surgery, resuscitation, emergencies and maternity areas, therefore the essential parts of the operation of the hospital”concludes Geneviève Darrieussecq.
