AWhen François Bayrou consults the political forces to compose his government, Lionel Jospin calls on the left to remain in opposition. The former socialist Prime Minister spoke about French political instability after the appointment of MoDem boss Matignon, the fourth head of government of the year. “Since the dissolution of the National Assembly in June, the country has entered into political uncertainty. To begin to remove this uncertainty, we must have two requirements in mind: that of stability and that of clarity,” he declared this Monday, December 16 at the microphone of France Inter.

“Stability can be sought provided it is done with clarity. The socialists, communists and ecologists, considering that they were not called by the president to form the new government, are in opposition. It makes sense, and I approve of this choice. I think they should stay in opposition. Entering a coalition would mean entering into political confusion, but, at the same time, they must contribute to ensuring that this government lasts,” he added.
And to clarify: “They are in the opposition, but, unlike La France insoumise, they do not intend to block the regular functioning of public authorities. » LFI refused François Bayrou's invitation to Matignon out of fear, according to Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Mathilde Panot, that “that it would all be a comedy again”.
“Jean-Luc Mélenchon is in an illusion of radicality”
Lionel Jospin hopes that the “three left-wing groups” will nevertheless obtain guarantees from the government of François Bayrou. Demands included in the program of the New Popular Front, which he considers “probably obsolete” because of “Jean-Luc Mélenchon who is no longer concerned with governing but with removing the president”.

“I believe that Jean-Luc Mélenchon is in an illusion of radicalism. He believes that the situation in France is in some way revolutionary. However, if there is a risk, it is rather a counter-revolutionary risk,” he declared.
