During Sunday night’s San Antonio Spurs vs Minnesota Timberwolves game, the Spurs fell short of their ploys to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves. The match ended on a score of 106-92. Victor Wembanyama played his part in the game as he led the Spurs with 20 points and 12 rebounds but their opposition was ahead. Anthony Edwards sealed Timberwolves with 26 points, guiding his team to victory quite easily over San Antonio.
Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves to victory over the Spurs
The Spurs had not really been into a rhythm offensively, especially in the first half. Minnesota started off strong with Edwards. His 26-point contribution led his team to a stunning victory while the Spurs struggled to put a defense against him. San Antonio had shown some form in previous games, but there was nothing they could do about the Timberwolves’ attack, as they went on to shoot a solid 46.8% from the field.
Victor Wembanyama finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds, the rest of the team could not support him much. The Spurs were not consistent enough either offensively or defensively with the Timberwolves. Yet again, turnovers and inefficient shots from beyond the arc made the case worse for the Spurs as they could only make 8 of their 31 attempts from beyond the arc.
Jeremy Sochan contributed 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Harrison Barnes added 17 points for the Spurs.
San Antonio made a strong start to the second half, going on a 20-9 run to cut Minnesota’s lead to 61-57. However, the Timberwolves responded by outscoring the Spurs 30-22 in the final quarter.
Minnesota capitalized on 10 turnovers and scored 13 second-chance points, building a 16-point lead in the first half.
Rob Dillingham scored his first points against the Spurs since being traded to Minnesota. Spurs’ Jeremy Sochan started in his second consecutive game after recovering from injury. Sochan had missed 13 games following surgery to repair a fractured left thumb, returning on December 1 but initially coming off the bench.
The Timberwolves’ shooting guard Edwards is averaging 26.3 PTS, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists.
Spurs’ highest scorer, Wembanyama is averaging 23.8 PTS, 10.2 rebounds, and 3.8 rebounds. The game was action-packed with several hits and misses of both teams but the game went to the Timberwolves’ favor. They now have 14 wins and 11 defeats while Spurs have tied their winning and looking stats adding 13 victories and 13 losses this season so far.
