“I am here in one piece”: after two brain operations, Brazilian President Lula leaves hospital

Operated at the beginning of the week, the Brazilian president had to undergo a second operation this Thursday, December 12. Everything went well and Lula can now resume his activities, the hospital announced this Sunday, December 15.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, 79, left the Sao Paulo hospital where he had emergency surgery on Tuesday for a hemorrhage near the brain, his doctors announced this Sunday, December 15. “I'm here in one piece […] I'm going home”said Lula, interrupting a press conference of the hospital's medical team.

A second operation to “reduce the risk”

Lula initially underwent an operation on Tuesday December 10 after complaining of severe headaches. Ultimately, it was a hemorrhage in the skull caused by a fall in October. On October 19, Lula hit the back of his head during a fall in the bathroom of his official residence. After this first operation, he underwent a second, two days later, in order to “reduce the risk”.

On his Instagram account, the Syrian-Lebanese hospital to which he was admitted gave his news 24 hours ago, specifying “that no further examination was planned”. His condition “progressed well in the postoperative phase, without complications”had described a first medical bulletin published Wednesday at midday, specifying that it was “lucid” and there remained “equipped with a drain while waiting for new routine examinations”.
