71. Minute
Always funny and mambimbi: The FCZ gave the two St. Gallen attackers less space in the second half, but they still appeared dangerously in front of the goal. Witzig serves his fellow striker with a cross, Mambimbi holds out his foot but doesn’t hit it as intended.
68. Minute
Kamberi sees yellow for an overly hard entry.
67. Minute
Markelo tries from a distance, but his shot is too central and can be parried by Zigi.
66. Minute
After FC Zurich’s furious start in the second half, FC St. Gallen is better again on defense. But the FCZ continues to put pressure on them and almost get their next chance through Perea.
62. Minute
Mariano Gomez gives the guests a corner after a failed back pass. However, they cannot create any danger from this. Now it’s the St. Gallen team who can hardly find their way to the goal.
60. Minute
The inconspicuous Mounir Chouiar goes out and Umeh Emmanuel comes into the game.
54. Minute
Perea comes to the header completely free on Tsawa’s cross, but brings the ball right into the arms of the visiting goalkeeper Zigi. The home team is now putting a lot of pressure on.
53. Minute
Tsawa kills Mambimbi in the Zurich penalty area and St. Gallen demands a penalty. Schärer decides there is no foul, the VAR checks and finds no criminal action either. That was probably not enough for a penalty.
51. Minute
Mirlind Kryeziu almost equalized for FCZ after a corner. Zigi scrapes his header off the line at the last moment.
50. Minute
Okoroji is shown yellow for a foul on Perea.
49. Minute
Christian Witzig appears almost alone in front of Brecher, but puts the ball too far forward.
46. Minute
The St. Gallen player wins a corner just a few seconds into the second half. This creates no danger of scoring, as does FCZ’s attempt after a counterattack on the other side.
46. Minute
For the guests, Albert Vallci came on for Jozo Stanic at halftime. The FCZ, however, appears unchanged.
Start of halftime
The second half is underway!
No shots on the opponent’s goal, 0.08 expected goals: FC Zurich’s first half result against FC St. Gallen is sobering. Despite almost 60 percent possession of the ball, the home team did not make any dangerous offensive moves. The guests didn’t have many chances either, but they took advantage of their best and were able to take the lead in the 34th minute through Felix Mambimbi. Like a few times before, Zurich’s defense didn’t look good in this action either. If the FCZ wants to take points from this game, they need to improve their performance significantly after the break.
End of halftime
Referee Schärer blows the whistle for the first half, FCZ is 0-1 behind against St. Gallen at the break.
45. Minute
There are two more minutes in the first round.
43. Minute
The FCZ defender comes from a good position to head the ball after a free kick, but his attempt clearly misses the opponent’s goal.
39. Minute
Although the St. Gallen team didn’t exactly deliver an offensive spectacle, their opening goal was not undeserved. FC Zurich is still waiting for its first shot on goal of the game. The home team has not yet seen a clear game idea going forward. The Zurich team’s long balls, which usually land at an opponent, are emblematic of this.
34. Minute
Christian Witzig overcomes the Zurich defense with a through pass and launches Felix Mambimbi, who scores 1-0 for the guests from a completely free position. The goal was initially disallowed because of offside, but the VAR reported that the St. Gallen attacker was not offside. The FCZ defense didn’t look good at all.
