Ken Jeong thinks he knows which celebrity is hiding underneath the Strawberry Shortcake costume on The Masked Singer. There’s just one slight problem — his guess is way off.
The Season 12 semifinals arrive on Wednesday’s episode (Fox, 8/7c), bringing back Strawberry Shortcake, Wasp and Buffalos to battle for the two spots in next week’s grand finale event. Each of the three remaining contestants will give a friendship bracelet to the judge with whom they already share a connection, which is how we get this moment:

“One of the highlights of my career was the press tour we did together,” Strawberry Shortcake tells Jeong in TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek below. “You made me laugh the entire day.” Jeong immediately remembers meeting Joey King in the green room of a daytime talk show, leading him to declare — with surprising confidence — that the Kissing Booth actress is under that costume.

So, how do we know that Jeong’s guess is incorrect? Because the clues — not to mention the recognizable voice — all point to someone else: AJ Michalka!
Though Jeong and Michalka have never shared the screen together (until now!), she was a series regular on ABC’s The Goldbergs while Jeong’s short-lived comedy Dr. Ken aired on the same network, making it entirely likely that they met while doing press. Jeong also mentions the mouse ears clue, claiming that it’s a nod to King’s two episodes of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. In actuality, it’s a reference to the years Michalka and her sister spent on Disney Channel.
