Social networks, a mirror of public opinion?
At the origin of this project, we find the Parisian firm Avisia, specialized in data projects. Through this prediction, Avisia intends to determine whether social networks reflect – or not – the opinion of the general public. “In order to be able to predict the future winner, artificial intelligence uses a prediction model developed by a machine learning system. So that the AI can provide a reliable result, AVISIA used different datasets, bringing together multiple data from the social networks Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, using the web scraping technique. It is important to note that the outcome of the election is determined 50% by the public and 50% by the jury“, specifies the firm.

According to this AI, Miss Guadeloupe Moïra André should be crowned this evening, since she currently has a 68% chance of victory, the site updating in real time. Even if the name of the two runners-up is more complicated to guess, Miss Martinique (Angélique Angarni-Filopon) and Miss Nord Pas-de-Calais (Sabah Aib) should complete the podium, with respectively 56% and 55% probability. Miss Guyana, Burgundy and Picardy would complete the ranking.

A reliable prognosis?
But can we really trust the calculations of this AI? Not really, according to Pascal Bizzari, the deputy general manager of Avisia. “In fact, we are trying to reproduce what happens on election day.”he explains to France3. “We manage to reproduce the behavior of the public quite well. But as with any prediction, these are probabilities. There are favorites, but that doesn’t mean they will necessarily win. On the big day, the performance of the Miss and her ability to shine during the show can transcend the distribution of votes.” For example, last year, Avisia’s prediction did not turn out to be correct, with Eve Gilles – Miss France 2024 – not even appearing in the top 5. However, her predictions turned out to be correct at twice since the start of this ranking in 2019.
