Leader Bayern was also hit on matchday 14: the record champions lost in the Bundesliga for the first time. Granit Xhaka and Gerardo Seoane can celebrate for that.
The most important thing in brief
-
Mainz surprisingly defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 at home.
-
Champion Leverkusen wins 2-0 away in Augsburg.
-
Mönchengladbach celebrates a 3-1 home win over newly promoted Kiel.
-
The game between Union and Bochum (1:1) was interrupted due to a lighter being thrown.
Successful afternoon for Bo Henriksen in the Bundesliga: The ex-FCZ coach inflicts their first defeat on Bayern Munich. Striker Lee scored both goals in a 2-1 win against the record champions.
Right at the start, Bayern attacker Olise causes excitement with a bang on the post. A short time later, the in-form Mainz striker Jonathan Burkardt had to go down injured.
Nevertheless, it is the hosts who can celebrate before the break: Lee benefits from Munich’s mistake in defense and scores the 1-0. After an hour, it was Lee again who made Bo Henriksen’s team celebrate: the attacker increased the score to 2-0.
Bayern’s reaction came late: after 87 minutes, Leroy Sané reduced the score to 1:2. But it’s not enough: Bayern lose for the first time in the Bundesliga.
Nevertheless, Vincent Kompany’s team remains leaders. Henriksen’s Mainz team, with Silvan Widmer on the bench, climbed to sixth place.

Union Berlin – VfL Bochum 1:1
Bottom team Bochum is still waiting for its first win of the season. The game against Union Berlin starts badly: after 13 minutes, Miyoshi is sent off with a red card.
Despite being outnumbered, Zeidler’s successor Dieter Hecking’s team celebrates first: Sissoko puts the guests in the lead after 23 minutes. Ten minutes later Hollerbach equalized to make it 1-1.
When everything looks like a draw, a bad scene occurs: Bochum keeper Drewes is hit in the head by a lighter. The goalie is brought off the pitch with support – and referee Martin Petersen interrupts the game.
The two teams return after around 20 minutes. But things don’t go any further for keeper Drewes: Striker Philipp Hofmann takes over the goalie position because Bochum’s substitution quota has been exhausted.
But the teams create unusual images: they let the ball run and agree on a “non-aggression pact”. The few remaining minutes pass until referee Petersen blows his whistle. This game is likely to have consequences.
FC Augsburg – Bayer Leverkusen 0:2
After just a quarter of an hour, our national team captain can celebrate with Leverkusen: Martin Terrier puts the champions in the lead in Augsburg, Granit Xhaka initiates the attack.
The answer from the Fuggerstädter follows after 23 minutes: Schlotterback scores the equalizer with his head after a free kick. But the goal was conceded by VAR due to offside. Five minutes before half-time, Leverkusen’s national player Florian Wirtz increased the score to 2-0.
In the second half the champions controlled the game. Nati player Ruben Vargas, who comes in at Augsburg in the final phase, can’t change that. It remains 2-0, Leverkusen reduces the gap to Bayern Munich to four points.
Borussia Mönchengladbach – Holstein Kiel 4:1
Gerardo Seoane’s team got off to a lightning start in the home game against Kiel: Tim Kleindienst took the lead after just 36 seconds. After 25 minutes, it was Robin Hack who set the course for the “Foals” to win at home: he scored with a lob to make it 2-0.
But the newcomer is not intimidated: After half an hour, Gigovic reduces the score to 1:2 with a blast from distance. Nati defender Elvedi and his colleagues give Kiel too much space in this situation.
But before the half-time whistle, Plea gave Gladbach a deserved 3-1. And it is the attacker who makes it 4:1 in the final phase. With the clear home win, Gladbach climbs to ninth place.
