Trial of former Grenoble rugby players – Loïc Jammes, Denis Coulson and Rory Grice will appeal their conviction for rape

The advice of Denis Coulson, Loick Jammes and Rory Grice, all three convicted of rape this Friday, do not want to stop there. They find the verdict too harsh and want to appeal.

Very quickly after the verdict, the lawyers of the three convicted of gang rape (Loïck Jammes, Denis Coulson and Rory Grice) reacted to announce that they will appeal convictions from the Assize Court. Corinne Dreyfus-Schmidt, Jean-Felix Luciani and Philip Fitzgerald gave this information in turn. There will therefore be a new trial, perhaps in 2026 to judge the terrible facts of the night of March 11 to 12, 2017.

“I am extremely shocked,” promises Coulson's lawyer

The three counsel for the accused declared themselves stunned by the harshness of the sanctions. Corinne Dreyfus-Schmidt spoke of her dismay at such inhumanity. “Mr. Coulson is ill, he cannot walk well. I remind you that he was 21 years old at the time of the events. What is the point of sending men to detention for fourteen years? What is the point for the civil party, what is the point for the society? None, otherwise destroy more lives. I am extremely shocked by this decision. We will appeal the decision tomorrow morning and we will make a request for release.
