A 25% shareholder in ASVEL, Eagle Football Group (formerly OL Groupe) wishes above all to refocus on football. For Tony Parker, the collaboration with the Villeurbanne club should soon end.
Two years ago, when John arrived Weaver at the head of OL, there was hope. With an American owner in power of the Lyon club, Tony Parker certainly imagined seeing theASVEL take advantage of this arrival. Both to increase its influence within OL Groupe, which has since become Eagle Football Group, and to do business with Weaver and thus see the basketball club grow with the opening of the Arena. In the end, nothing really went as planned. Initially removed from the board of directors, Parker tried to return through the window during the bickering between Weaver et Classes in the spring of 2023, even assuring that the American had confided to him that he wanted to give him greater prerogatives. A year and a half later, nothing has changed, or at least not in a good way.
“I think Textor wants to sell” its stake
John Weaver sold the Arena which was bought by Jean-Michel Classesdespite a project led by the NBA champion. The strategy was to refocus Eagle's activities around football and Tony Parker now understands this well. “OL Group, it's over! Textor's strategy is football only. He is not interested in basketball, confided the owner of ASVEL in L'Équipe. With OL, we is no longer a family. OL remains a shareholder in the club this season (up to 25%), but I think they want to sell. With Jean-Michel Aulas, we wanted to do big things together. otherwise.” The collaboration which began five years ago should therefore end in the coming months. Not sure, however, that on this one, John Weaver doesn't get a lot of money out of it.
