According to information from the Bloomberg news agency, the wealth of the richest man in the world, high-tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, has exceeded the mark of more than 400 billion dollars. This is a world first, the agency reported on Wednesday.
On the one hand, the shares of the electric car manufacturer Tesla, led by Musk, have increased by more than 65 percent since Donald Trump’s election victory on November 5th. On the other hand, a share buyback in the space company Spacex, run by Musk, increased its share in the company. His assets have increased by around $50 billion to $440 billion, Bloomberg reported.
The largest donor in the history of US politics
Musk supported Trump’s election campaign with $270 million, making him the largest donor in the history of US politics. The right-wing populist, for his part, has commissioned the entrepreneur to head a new department for efficient governance.
Through his alliance with Trump, Musk now has considerable influence over the US government, which raises the question of massive conflicts of interest. His activity could also lead to further contracts for his companies.
Spacex sends military satellites into space, takes astronauts to the ISS space station and is intertwined with the Pentagon and NASA in many ways. Last year alone, the Musk companies received public contracts worth three billion dollars, according to information from the New York Times.
