Benny Blanco gave Selena Gomez a striking marquise diamond engagement ring—one with a deep, personal meaning behind it. Gomez showed the sparkler off in her Instagram announcement post of the couple’s big news. The ring features a large center marquise diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds on the band.
Blanco’s choice to have a marquise diamond be the focal point is a sweet reference to Gomez’s 2015 song “Good for You.”
In the second verse, Gomez sings, “I’m on my marquise diamonds / I’m a marquise diamond / Could even make that Tiffany jealous / You say I give it to you hard / So bad, so bad / Make you never wanna leave / I won’t, I won’t.”
Gomez has been very vocal about how good her year-and-a-half relationship with Blanco has been for her. In September, she told Vanity Fair of Blanco, “I’ve never been loved this way. He’s just been a light. A complete light in my life. He’s my best friend. I love telling him everything.”
She also shared that there was no rush for them to get engaged. “We always make sure we’re protecting what we have, but there’s no rules,” she said. “I want him to always be himself. I always want to be myself.” When she does get married, she added, “I’m not changing my name no matter what. I am Selena Gomez. That’s it.”
In May, Blanco spoke to Howard Stern about wanting to marry Gomez. “When I look at her, I do say, I’m always just like, ‘I don’t know a world where it could be better than this,’” he said. When asked if he had a ring, Blanco replied, “I don’t have anything. I’ve got no shoes on. I’ve got to get my act together.”
