Just 72 hours after its Champions League match against Sturm Graz, LOSC will have to follow up on Saturday at 5 p.m. with a crucial match against OM. A situation which annoys Lille president Olivier Létang.
French teams who play in the Champions League on Wednesday are generally entitled to more rest by playing on Sunday in Ligue 1. We could legitimately expect that the OM-Lille match would therefore be scheduled for Sunday, since the Bruno Genesio's team played its 6th day of the Champions League on Wednesday evening against Sturm Graz. Against all expectations, the meeting was finally scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m. since BeInSports chose this match as second choice, DAZN having first choice this weekend with PSG-OL. But at the microphone of RMC after Lille's victory against Sturm Graz, northern president Olivier Létang revealed that he had had the agreement of BeInSports and Olympique de Marseille to postpone the match to Sunday. A priori, everyone was ok to play on Sunday… except the LFP, which logically makes Olivier Létang angry.
“The idea is above all not to complain. We have a game in less than 72 hours. The boys will be ready. Afterwards, we must question the functioning of the authorities. You must have noticed that there are two clubs which played on Tuesday evening in the Champions League (PSG and Brest) and which play on Sunday. There you go… To tell you the truth, I had authorization and validation from the president of OM to play on Sunday. We had permission from a broadcaster to play on Sunday. But despite that, we find ourselves with a match less than 72 hours from a Champions League match. Everyone needs to look at themselves. Let's all be professional and we will take football from the top” regrets Olivier Létang, who would undoubtedly have preferred to play on Sunday at 7 p.m. for example, in a free slot where no matches are being played and where BeinSports would therefore not have competed with DAZN. But the LFP decided to reject this request and the clash between OM and Lille at the Vélodrome will therefore take place on Saturday at 5 p.m., less than three days after the Mastiffs' European meeting.
