“Yes, the trains will run at Christmas”assured François Durovray, the resigning Minister of Transport, on Sud Radio, Thursday December 12. A notice of indefinite strike from December 11 had been filed but Unsa-Ferroviaire and CFDT-Cheminots announced on December 6 that they would abandon it. “This signature of two unions” allow “a limitation of the strike”argued François Durovray.

Unsa-Ferroviaire and CFDT-Cheminots, considered reformist, announced that they had obtained guarantees for the 4,500 employees transferred to two subsidiaries on January 1, after the decision to discontinue Fret SNCF, targeted by an investigation by the European Commission for illegal public aid.

Railway workers will be guaranteed to retain all of their rights for 36 months, while they negotiate a new working framework in the new companies created, Hexafret and Technis.
