The “Red December”promised by the CGT, continues. After the success of the inter-union day of action on December 5 in the public service, the CGT, joined by Solidaires, is mobilizing this Thursday, December 12 for industry and employment, while the confederation has identified 300 layoff plans in current or in anticipation.
Nearly 120 rallies and demonstrations are planned in front of companies affected by job cuts or closures, as well as in front of prefectures. Faced with political instability, the general secretary of the CGT, Sophie Binet, calls for a complete change in economic policy, while despair is spreading among the ranks of workers.
Has the political instability since the dissolution worsened the social situation?
The CGT is alerting, without response for six months. The situation is deteriorating. In June, we identified 130 layoff plans. During my meeting with Michel Barnier in October, I gave him a list of 180 plans. The CGT now counts more than 300. And this is just the tip: 200,000 to 300,000 jobs are affected. The resigned government considers that the measures were limited to “good” redundancy bonuses.
For us, the issue is not the check, but the job! We are very shocked to see the Macronists, who are fighting to reduce the rights of the unemployed, explaining today that we must let companies sack as they wish. The challenge is to block these layoffs and prevent lives from being wiped out, territories destroyed and our industry reduced to nothing.
