After the award of the 2030 World Cup to the Spain-Morocco-Portugal trio (also with three matches in South America), Cristiano Ronaldo was proud and happy for his country.
This is a great first for Portugal. While Fifa met this Wednesday in a virtual Congress to designate the host countries of the 2030 (and 2034) World Cup, the country of only 10.5 million inhabitants was awarded the organization of this event . Already organizer of Euro 2004, Portugal will host its first World Cup, with the help of its Spanish and Moroccan neighbors. A tripartite candidacy which won over FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the 211 member associations.
A few hours after this historic announcement, Cristiano Ronaldo, who worked so hard for his selection (135 goals in 217 matches), let his joy explode on his social networks. “A dream come true. Portugal will host the 2030 World Cup and fill us with pride. Together,” wrote the Al-Nassr striker.
“The most special World Cup ever”
In his publication X, Ronaldo also highlighted the fact that this 2030 World Cup “will be the most special ever.” A message, certainly, chauvinistic, but not insignificant, since the event will celebrate the centenary of the first edition, in 1930 in Uruguay.
For the occasion, the first three matches will take place in South America (in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay), between June 8 and 9, 2030. The six teams concerned will then cross the Atlantic to play the rest of the competition on the European and African continents, from June 13 to July 21. A competition on three different continents, but which should take place without Cristiano Ronaldo who will then be 45 years old.
