End of the soap: KMSK Deinze is bankrupt

Things did not look good for second division KMSK Deinze on Tuesday. The two provisional administrators who were appointed to investigate the club’s financial situation came to the corporate court with bad news. “No payments were received in the days after the previous hearing. We were naive to think that the new investment group would keep those promises,” said administrator Goossens.

The club was taken to the corporate court by three parties at the time for overdue payments. After several false promises to arrange those payments, the curtain finally fell on the football club on Wednesday. The corporate court has declared KMSK Deinze bankrupt.

Curators

At the hearing on Tuesday, November 26, the club’s lawyer, Walter Van Steenbrugge, had stated that a payment of 400,000 euros had been made to compensate series rival Lierse, among other things, but nothing turned out to be further from the truth. The overdue wages were also supposed to be paid that week, but that did not happen.

The court therefore ruled that short-term payments are not possible. On Wednesday she appointed two curators, lawyers Pieter Wauman and Matthias Gesquière, to further handle the bankruptcy.

The death throes of KSMK Deinze are thus over. The club started the season in the Challenger Pro League ambitiously with some major transfers such as Tuur Dierckx, but at the end of September main shareholder ACAFP decided to turn off the money tap. At that time, bankruptcy was already close, but a buyer suddenly appeared with AAD Invest Group. The barely 28-year-old Celine Mawet, until then the club’s communications manager, is appointed CEO.

For a moment the sky seemed to clear up for Deinze, but all the wonderful promises came to nothing in recent weeks. The curtain finally fell on Wednesday.
