Bruges won 2-1 against Sporting Portugal this Tuesday evening in the Champions League. A victory for character in a tense and intense match.
Simon Mignolet was relieved when he came to speak at Frank Peterkenne’s microphone. Relieved because the Club started the match very badly, with a goal conceded after only 3 minutes of play: “Sometimes it’s good to concede early because there’s plenty of time to come back. We remained calm until the end, we didn’t panic at all and we managed the second half well. And then the changes made the difference.”
Casper Nielsen’s rise to the game with just a quarter of an hour to go made the difference: “Yes he put in a superb shot. But after that we had to hold on for another 10 minutes. We remained very compact, well united, and we held on until the end.”
With 10 points on the clock, the people of Bruges should succeed in remaining in the Top 24, synonymous with play-offs for the rest of the competition: “I hope it will be enough but there are still two matches to play and you never know what could happen. We have taken a big step forward for the rest of the competition.”
