One of the strongest away teams against one of the strongest home teams – the duel between FC Zurich and Lausanne promised a lot. After 45 minutes, the sobering surprise: There is one team in particular playing at the Stade de la Tuilière. Namely the home team.
After 15 minutes and Marchesano losing the ball, Koba Kondredi defeated FCZ goalie Yanick Brecher from a distance. As a result, the Vaudois continued to play, and the guests from Zurich didn’t get a single shot on goal until the break, although they complained about a penalty once. Because referee Kanagasingam never points to the spot in this and two controversial scenes in the Zurich penalty area, the Vaudois team remained in a narrow lead until the break. Can FCZ react after the break? We’ll get back to you shortly.
Three minutes of added time passed before referee Kanagasingam called for a break. FC Zurich is 0-1 behind against Lausanne after 45 minutes.
Shortly before the break, Sanches outplays several Zurich players – Conde, Oko-Flex and Kryeziu are left behind. He then tries a shot from distance, but puts the ball over the box. That would have been a goal.
Zurich is on the advance again: Dussenne plays a bad pass, Afriyie spins forward, but his wide, high pass finds no taker.
And now the FCZ is complete again – and with a new player on the pitch. Instead of Conceicao, Armstrong now plays Oko-Flex. And he announces his substitution with a loss of the ball.
Now it’s the Lausanne team’s turn again to demand the penalty. After a Lausanne cross, the ball unfortunately hits Gomez’s arm. Again Kanagasingam refrains from blowing a whistle.
Conceicao sits again and the game has to be interrupted again. It’s probably not going any further, some substitutes are warming up on the side. Zurich just ten people.
And now the Zurich penalty is complaining, in the Vaudois penalty area the ball bounces from Poaty’s knee to his elbow, but the distance was too short for a whistle from referee Kanagasingam.
And that hurts! In a duel, Conceicao stands on the ball and stretches his knee – which he has already had to operate on once. The Portuguese is being treated briefly and can probably continue playing for the time being.
Lausanne is doing this quite cleverly in the current phase of the game: a lot of early pressing from the home team. The Vaudois force Zurich to throw high balls, but even there they are mostly in the right position. Letica just has the ball at her feet for the first time in fifteen minutes.
Next yellow card for FCZ: Afriyie comes too late in the duel with Dussenne.
Lausanne continues to show forward momentum and penetrates the Zurich penalty area again – there De la Fuente stumbles and the ball hits his hand. Relief free kick for Zurich.
Lausanne with quite aggressive pressing. Marchesano tries it with similar severity and is given a verbal warning. And because he is subsequently upset about the decision, he receives a yellow card for complaining.
And yet another delicate scene in the FCZ penalty area, Zurich is currently swimming. A cross to the second post, then Konrad de la Fuente, not the ball, is in the Zurich goal. Lausanne complains about a penalty because Gomez pushed too hard – and perhaps touched the ball with his hands? Referee Kanagasingam doesn’t want to know anything about it, the VAR doesn’t respond, so it’s probably not a clear wrong decision.
And again a good chance for Lausanne, De la Fuente is launched on the left side, he has all the time in the world – and puts the ball past the crossbar.
Marchesano takes control of the ball and is cut down in the middle – Lausanne takes over with Koindredi, and with the first significant chance he puts the ball straight into the goal from medium distance. This is the tour for Lausanne! Brecher was still on the ball, but was unable to direct it around the post. 1-0 for Lausanne!
Katic steals the ball from Ajdini at the corner flag – only to give it straight back to Koindredi. A short pass to De la Fuente, a cross – but nobody is there.
The balance of the starting phase: FC Zurich is pretty solid. The guests disrupt things early and stay on the ball. Thanks to the towers Kryeziu, Gomez and Katic, there has been no danger from corners so far.
Corner from Lausanne – and then the game has to be briefly interrupted. Chouiar is in focus again, this time because the midfielder is hit in the back of the head and remains lying there for a moment. After a short period of care, he can move on.
And that wasn’t all that safe! Afriyie is sent wide and then manages possession cleverly, he finds the unmarked Chouiar, who flicks the ball out just wide of the post. That would have been a lightning start, almost like against GC! Goalie Letica probably still had his fingertips on the ball, but there was still no corner.
