Real Madrid cruise to victory in Girona

Real Madrid beat Girona at Montilivi to pick up three more points in the fight for LaLiga. The Whites took the lead after 36 minutes with another goal from an inspired Bellingham, who has now scored in the last five league games. In a great second half, Ancelotti’s side sealed the win with two more goals. They came from Arda Guler in the 55th minute, assisted by Bellingham, and Mbappé in the 62nd minute from Modric’s pass.

The game started at a fast pace but with little in the way of realistic chances. The first came just before the half-hour mark when Van de Beek’s powerful shot from inside the box went high. From then on, Madrid upped the pressure, which resulted in a string of chances for the Whites. Brahim’s well-placed effort from the edge of the area was met by a fine save from Gazzaniga in the 34th minute. Two minutes later, Ancelotti’s side took the lead. Brahim put a ball back into the box and Miguel Gutiérrez cleared, but Bellingham was on hand to fire a first-time shot through the legs of Oriol Romeu and the keeper.

The sweet moment
With the score at 0-1 at half-time, Real Madrid had the chance to extend their lead just after the break. Modric took a free-kick in the 50th minute and Tchouameni’s header with his back to goal was kept out by another great save from Gazzaniga. The Whites were again denied by the goalkeeper five minutes later. Bellingham’s assist behind the Girona defence was precise and Arda Guler finished with a beautiful cross-shot. The English player, who had easily been our best player, had to be taken off in the 60th minute feeling some serious discomfort.

Clean sheet

The minutes ticked by and in the 62nd minute the final blow came. Modric spotted Mbappé’ s run and played a precise through ball that the Frenchman slotted home with a tight right-footed cross-shot. The 0-3 scoreline hit the home side hard and Madridwho played a great second half in which they hardly gave Girona any chances, maintained their lead by keeping possession of the ball. There was even time for home-grown player Yáñez to make his debut. With this victory, Ancelotti‘s side are second in LaLiga, two points behind the leaders and with a game in hand.
