A 23-year-old woman accused of leading a network of hitmen in Colombia has been arrested.
Karen Julieth Ojeda Rodriguez is known to police as “La Muneca,” which translates from Spanish to “The Doll.” On Sunday, she was arrested for her alleged involvement in carrying out several high-profile killings in Barrancabermeja, allegedly ordered by the Los de la M gang.
Rodriguez was the alleged mastermind behind the murder of her ex-boyfriend, Deyvy Jesus, on July 23. She allegedly got him to agree to a meeting to settle a financial dispute, but once at the location, two men on a motorcycle shot him in a drive-by.
Rodriguez, allegedly second in command of Los de la M, was reportedly responsible for coordinating selective murders ordered by the gang in Santander. She also handled high-priority tasks due to her expertise with weapons and deadly accurate aim.
Videos released by police this week show Rodriguez handcuffed, wearing a white crop top and shorts with long, dark hair, sending the internet into a frenzy over her appearance.
In one shot, Rodriguez stares into the camera as police are presenting her and an alleged male accomplice in a sight worthy of social media users demanding deadpan actress Aubrey Plaza portray her in a film.
Rodriguez was arrested along with two accomplices: Paula Valentina Joya Rueda, 24, known as “Gorda Sicaria” (“Fat Hitwoman”), and another accomplice identified as “Leopoldo.”
Police seized a revolver and a 9mm pistol during the arrest and are investigating if the weapons were linked to recent killings.
Officials have yet to announce the charges that Rodriguez and her alleged accomplices will face.
Who Is Karen Julieth Ojeda Rodriguez?
Colombian newspaper North Journal reports that Rodriguez completed high school before becoming entangled in criminal activities at 18.
Operating in the Colombian cities of Bucaramanga, Piedecuesta, and Barrancabermeja, Rodriguez earned a fearsome reputation. Her expertise with firearms and cold-blooded demeanor made even men wary of her, as she was known for her deadly precision and steady aim, according to the outlet.
As the second-in-command of the gang Los de la M, which controlled operations from the Girón prison in Santander, her influence extended far and wide. Rodriguez skillfully avoided suspicion by leveraging her appearance and frequently changing her hair color to avoid being identified.
