Alvaro Morata believes AC Milan have been unable to find any consistency this season because they have done well in certain areas but neglected others.

Milan lost further ground not only in the race for the Scudetto but also in the battle for the top four as they were beaten 2-1 by Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium on Friday night.

The home side took the lead early on through Charles De Ketelaere’s header from a free-kick – one Paulo Fonseca believes should have been a foul – but then Alvaro Morata equalised before the break.

When it looked like a draw was on the cards, Ademola Lookman popped up at the far post to tap in a header from a cross and extend La Dea’s streak to nine wins in a row.

Morata spoke to Sky after the full-time whistle to analyse what was a difficult night for the team despite his goal, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

How does the post-match disappointment feel?

“In general for everything. We knew that Atalanta are a great team. We were defending well and we conceded two goals from set pieces which is not usually a weak point.

“We can only correct the mistakes and move forward: we have many objectives, competitions and soon we also have the Supercoppa.”

Why is there a lack of consistency?

“Because we have to play against top-level teams. If you don’t pay attention in every situation, then there is the risk of losing. We conceded two goals from set pieces and if you are not careful in all this it becomes more complicated.

“In the end we don’t maintain the same line because there’s always something. When we are good in some parts of the game, we are penalised in others. Mental problem? No, it is to work on all the parts that are part of football. We train well and we make an effort.”
