Venus Williams has entered the fashion group chat.

The tennis icon made a stunning arrival at the Fashion Awards in London last night, and with her look, defied everything we thought we knew about black-tie style.

The ensemble, at its core, consisted of a black onesie. It was a button-up one-piece with a plunging collar and wide-leg pants that were cropped at the shins like Bermuda shorts. It had all the qualities of a onesie—of course, it was also silky, black, tailored, and courtesy of Thom Browne.

Williams wore the jumpsuit with a matching coat by Browne. It had structured shoulders, pronounced lapels, and silky lining along the edges. Inside, it was all red, white, and blue stripes—a signature print from the American fashion designer.

The athlete completed her look with shiny black pumps with pointed toes, diamond stud earrings, and several layered gold and diamond necklaces. Her hair was styled in a curly, braided updo, and she wore shimmery charcoal smoky eye.

Williams walked the red carpet at the Royal Albert Hall in her look before joining Hollywood and fashion legends at the reception.

The tennis pro and her sister, fellow tennis pro Serena Williams, have long been part of the fashion sphere, and were among the first female athletes to spice up the style in the court. These days, the older Williams is also an arts patron.

“People are like, ‘Hey. It’s cool to see you, but you can’t possibly be able to do something else,’” Williams told painter Titus Kaphar in her recent cover story for Cultured. “They can put you in a box, and it’s so important to really know what you’re doing, be passionate about it, and just keep hauling away.”

Her deep appreciation for design and the arts as an adult comes after she grew up without them, she said. “I didn’t go to many museums growing up,” Williams recalled. “We had this joke: If you became a tennis tourist, that was the worst thing that could happen. It meant you had lost.”
