Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has warned Manchester United counterpart Ruben Amorim of the “unpredictable” nature of life at the helm of one of England’s top clubs as the pair prepare to do battle on Wednesday.
Amorim will be taking charge of just his third Premier League match and is prepared for a huge jump in competition after previous meetings with Ipswich Town and Everton.
“You can see his fingerprints in what he wants to do straight away,” Arteta said of United’s new boss. “He has been very clear, he has been very successful. What he did with Sporting was remarkable, what he achieved there after so many years, especially the way he did it and the way his teams have been playing.
“He brings energy to a new club, new ideas, something positive but we have to focus on what we need to do.”
Arteta and Amorim have already faced off twice in the past – the latter’s Sporting CP side managed a win and a draw in the Europa League round of 16 in March 2023 – but Arsenal’s manager warned life at the top of the Premier League is entirely different.
Asked what he learned from joining Arsenal midway through a season, Arteta said: “How unpredictable this job is. I jumped into a new job in the middle of the season in very special circumstances socially.
“Then we got hit by COVID. You can plan whatever you want but football brings different things and you have to deal with it. Take it as it comes and deal with it.”
