The FFF Refereeing Department confirmed that Mr. Dechepy had made an error by not awarding a penalty to Evann Guessand on Sunday in Lyon (4-1).
OGC Nice did not hide its anger after its defeat at Lyon (4-1) on Sunday. The Riviera club sent several messages, exhuming an old front page of L'Equipe with the unequivocal title (“Nice stolen from Lyon”), before publishing on Monday a compilation of contentious situations during the meeting, where Mr. Dechépy did not make the decisions hoped for by the Aiglons.
The Gym contacted the Technical Refereeing Department, which responded in part in its debrief published this Tuesday. The DTA thus recognizes that there was a penalty on Evann Guessand in the 48th minute, which could have offered a nice 2-2 ball to Franck Haise's men.
There was a penalty on Guessand
“The footage shows the defender holding the attacker back, with a clear girdle of one arm, then both, and a lack of interest in the ball. The slight sole on the attacker's left foot cannot in itself justify a penalty. The intervention of the defender does not allow the attacker to continue his action after control of the ball, and constitutes a fault within the meaning of Law 12. A penalty was therefore expected following the viewing at the edge of the field, as well as 'a warning to the offender for unsportsmanlike behavior'summarizes the DTA.
The FFF also publishes the audio of the conversation between the referees on this action. Mr. Dechépy believes that the contact is not sufficient to call a foul at real speed, but his colleague in charge of VAR does not have the same opinion, and underlines the fact that Duje Caleta-Car does not play the ball at this moment. Called to view the images, Mr. Dechépy nevertheless maintained his decision not to call a penalty. Wrongly, according to his superiors.
