“I have to be scary…”: Emilie Dequenne learned on the Internet that she was being replaced for her next film

Invited this Sunday, December 1st in Seven to Eight on TF1, Émilie Dequenne opened her heart to Audrey Crespo-Mara. The Belgian actress, diagnosed in the summer of 2023 with adrenocorticoma – a malignant tumor of the adrenal gland – spoke about her fight against the disease, the repercussions on her career and her personal life.

After a first diagnosis in 2023, Émilie Dequenne recently learned of the recurrence of her cancer. She does not hide the violence of this news and the impact of the treatments on her daily life. If she admits that her treatment causes her dizziness and increased fatigue, she especially regrets the repercussions on her concentration. “I get tired more quickly, and my treatment tends to make me a little dizzy. I can be a little confused sometimes, mentally. I can't read a book anymore… It's stupid, but it hurts me a lot to no longer be able to read a book. I can read the scripts, but it's true that there… I had projects; I think that's it, it's either aborted or postponed.”

While she was trying to maintain a semblance of normalcy in her professional life, this recurrence had unexpected consequences, including a cinematic disappointment. Invited this Sunday, December 1st in Seven to Eight on TF1, Émilie Dequenne spoke about an event that particularly marked her. “I had to start shooting a film. I had one of the leading roles in this film. When the recurrence happened, I warned him immediately (Editor's note: the director) saying: 'It really won't be possible because I have to start chemotherapy again'”she confided to Audrey Crespo-Mara.

“I was not warned”: Emilie Dequenne learned on the internet that she was ousted from her next project

Emilie Dequenne was to have a role in a film. Despite the announcement of her cancer, she still believed she could participate in the project in a reduced role: “He said to me: 'Yes, well in any case, what would please me is if there was a small role… Would you agree to do it?' Obviously, I'm overjoyed, saying to myself: but obviously! Shooting two days, three days… I'm just happy to be able to play whatever.” However, his enthusiasm quickly gave way to amazement. While browsing the Internet, the interpreter of Rosetta in the film by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, discovered that she had been replaced. “Time passes and it is by surfing the net that I discovered that I had been replaced and that I was not informed. So I have to scare the productions, the directors….” she says with bitterness. A difficult revelation for the actress to take. Supported by her husband, actor Michel Ferracci, and her family, she continues to fight.
