The examination of the Social Security budget enters a new phase this Wednesday, November 27. After passing through both chambers of Parliament, it is in the joint committee that a final version of the text must be decided. For the contribution of 7 hours of unpaid work proposed by the Senate, this is the moment of truth.
One last chance to appear in the final text. This Wednesday, the National Assembly and the Senate will meet in a joint committee to work together to develop a common and final version of the Social Security budget for 2025.
For many proposals, this will be their last chance to appear in this controversial budget which, in the face of fierce opposition from deputies, should probably be the subject of one or more appeals to article 49-3.
This is particularly the case for the “solidarity contribution”, an amendment proposed by the Senate Social Affairs Committee and adopted by the senators. The latter provides for a mechanism by which employees would work seven hours more during the year without being paid to help fill the Social Security deficit by generating 2.5 billion euros.
However, this measure proposed to avoid the elimination of a public holiday is strongly criticized by the left but also by part of the right.
However, the latter could see its chances of integrating the final text diminish. Laurent Wauquiez, leader of the LR deputies, announced this Tuesday at the end of the afternoon an agreement with the senators to remove the 7 hours of work without pay from the table.
