Real Madrid wanted to take advantage of it. Third at kick-off as part of the 15th day of La Liga, the Madrid team had to stock up on points after FC Barcelona's failure the day before against Las Palmas (1-2). After losing against Liverpool in the Champions League (2-0) earlier this week, Real Madrid hosted Getafe this Sunday afternoon. With two matches in hand, Carlo Ancelotti's men absolutely wanted to win to gain confidence and come back to within a small point of the Blaugrana. To do this, the Italian technician decided to align a 4-3-3 with an attack made up of Brahim Diaz, Kylian Mbappé and Rodrygo returning from injury. Dani Ceballos and Federico Valverde accompanied Jude Bellingham in midfield while Fran Garcia was preferred to Ferland Mendy at left back. The first period opened at a very choppy pace with many mistakes made. The Getafe players were placed very high on the pitch. The Madrilenians were therefore unable to get back on track.

Hooked by Pérez on the right side, Brahim Dia offered himself a good off-center free kick 30m away at Real Madrid, but Rodrygo failed to find Rüdiger on the attempt (15th). Found by Vasquez in the small perimeters in the area, Brahim Diaz tried to cross back towards Rodrygo who completely missed his shot (16th). The match was then very slow with neither team pressing until this avoidable foul by Nyom. On the corner hit by Rodrygo, the Getafe defender hooked Rüdiger in the area and Jude Bellingham opened the scoring perfectly from a penalty, wrong-footing the goalkeeper (30th, 1-0). And a few minutes later, the Merengues doubled the lead. On a deep pass from Bellingham, Mbappé controlled the ball and fired a shot from the edge of the area which hit the right post before entering the cage (38th, 2-0). The Madrilenians played much more liberated since the English international opened the scoring and Federico Valverde even came close to the third but his shot went over (41st).
Mbappé in the oven and in the mill
Shortly before the restart, the two coaches decided to make changes. Carlo Ancelotti released Jude Bellingham to bring in Arda Güler, while José Bordalás decided to start Chrisantus Uche and Coba in place of Mauro Arambarri and Allan Nyom. Real Madrid thought they would be rewarded with a second penalty. While Güler served Mbappé on the left side, the Blues international attempted a shot with his right foot, and the referee designated a hand from Berrocal. After viewing the video, Mr. Hernandez Hernandez decided not to give a penalty on Mbappé's shot since the leather ultimately hit the shin and not Berrocal's hand (51st). The Merengues were determined to take cover. On a good one-two, Mbappé served Brahim with a nice ladle in the area, but the Moroccan hit completely above trying to lob Soria (54th). The Azulones did not give up however and wanted to restart the meeting. In this sense, Pérez attempted a heavy strike from the entrance to the area well saved by Courtois. The ball returned to Pérez who served Uche. The Nigerian turned to face Rüdiger before hitting the right post (56th). Even if the pace began to decrease drastically, Luka Modric, who came on, cleverly served Valverde with a touch of the ball at the edge of the area. The Uruguayan sent a cannonball from the right, finally pushed back for a corner by Soria (72nd).

Determined to definitively win the match, Brahim Diaz launched Mbappé in depth who appeared alone against Soria. The former PSG player cleared the goalkeeper perfectly, but crossed too much with his shot which ended outside the empty cage (75th). Bis repeated on the next action. On a magnificent opening from Modric, the Frenchman presented himself again alone against Soria but came up against the Spanish goalkeeper (78th). As the final whistle approached, Getafe scored for the second time in the match. Served in the area, John Patrick sent a cannonball from the left which hit the crossbar, then the post before being cleared by the Madrid defense on the line (84th). Still close to the double, Mbappé provoked and served Güler in the area. The Turk cleverly handed it back to him but the Frenchman missed the target (90th+4). In the standings, Real Madrid is therefore in 2nd position, one point behind FC Barcelona and with a game less since the Merengues have to play their match late against Valencia following the postponement due to the terrible floods which affected the region in November. Next weekend, Carlo Ancelotti's troops will travel to the Spanish Basque Country to challenge Athletic Bilbao. Getafe, which is still 17th at the edge of the red zone, will play against Espanyol.
