Who will Botafogo take in the 2025 Club World Cup?

Why could Leon or Pachuca be left out of the 2025 Club World Cup?

FIFA's rule for the 2025 Club World Cup provides that only one club from each group or owner can compete in the competition. Both Leon and Pachuca are owned by Mexican businessman Jesús Martínez Patiño. As a result, Patiño would have to choose just one of the two teams to compete in the tournament.

In addition to Pachuca and Leon, the businessman's group owns more teams in Mexico – Mineros de Zacatecas and Coyotes de Tlaxcala – as well as Talleres, from Argentina, and Everton, from Chile. The other teams, however, are not classified for the tournament.

FIFA has not yet announced what the pending World Cup spot will look like if the exclusion of Leon or Pachuca is confirmed. If the criterion is the Concacaf club ranking, the one awarded the spot would be the Columbus Crew, from the USA.

If the criteria is runner-up in one of the Concacaf Champions Leagues won by Leon or Pachuca, Los Angeles FC – runner-up in 2023 – or Columbus Crew – runner-up in 2024 – could enter the World Cup dispute.

FIFA, however, has not yet officially commented on the possible exclusion of one of the Mexican teams.

What is the format of the new Club World Cup?

Held in the United States, the tournament will feature eight groups, each made up of four teams that will face each other in a single round. The two best teams in each group will qualify for the round of 16, which will be played in single knockout games. There will be no third place competition.

When will the draw for the new Club World Cup be?

The draw will be held on December 5th. The ceremony will begin at 3pm (Brasília time).

The 32 clubs in the World Cup will be divided into eight groups of four teams. There will be a directed draw, with division of pots, taking into account sporting and geographical factors.

The division of the pots, however, has not yet been announced. There is a possibility of Brazilian teams taking on global giants, such as Real Madrid.

When does the new Club World Cup start?

Now with 32 participating teams, the first edition of the competition will take place in 2025. More specifically, between June 15th and July 13th.

Which cities will host the New FIFA Club World Cup?

The tournament will be played in 11 cities. Orlando will have two stadiums. Nine headquarters are on the East Coast, and only two are on the West Coast (Los Angeles and Seattle). The final will be played at MetLife Stadium in New York. See the 12 stadiums:
