This is his 70th trip! This Friday, November 29, RMC Découverte is broadcasting a new issue of I will go and sleep at your place. It's always Antoine de Maximy of course who embodies the travel program, more than twenty years later helping to launch it. After going everywhere, this time he goes to the Baltic States, a region which includes Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
It is also always dressed in his now famous red shirt that this inveterate globetrotter will introduce this part of the world to viewers, with a bohemian and nonchalant appearance as usual, appearing as someone who is not very materialistic or concerned. superficial goods. Which would almost make us forget its particle! But in July 2023, for the Dauphiné LibéréAntoine de Maximy made a big revelation. “I'm a noble and I have a castle“, he announced to our colleagues.
And to specify: “He is no longer mine because there was the revolution. My aunt and uncle are in there. But I am the count and the castle, he is in Dauphiné, next to Pontcharra, in a small village called Barraux“. Antoine de Maximy is therefore Count of Barraux, a town known for its fortifications. However, he never lived there. Moreover, he was born a little further away in Lyon, to two artist-painter parents, his father Jean de Maximy (1931-2014) and his mother Elisabeth Combe (royal family) born in 1933.
More than 300 years of history behind this castle
The family castle is called Maximy Castle and was built in 1703 according to classical 17th-18th century architecture with adjoining rooms separated by double doors on the garden side. The street side has stairwells serving both floors, while a much older part still stands with barred windows and the remains of a small tower. The beautiful residence is located in the center of the village of Barraux, opposite the town hall and the church.
At the time of its construction, the castle belonged to the Vernay de Saint-Marcel family before the last heiress of this family, Pauline-Olympe, married Gabriel-Alphonse de Maximy in 1806, thus bringing the house to this family, that of the animator.
