PHILIPPE CLEMENT says he is ‘proud’ of his Rangers players after their dominant display in Europe this evening.

The Gers were brilliant throughout as they took a 3-0 lead into the half-time interval before eventually running out 4-1 away winners over in the UEFA Europa League.

Speaking to RangersTV to reflect on the result, he commented: “I am very proud of all the things I have seen today and also that people can see how much potential that there is in this group, with a lot of new and young players but they are developing, step by step.

“It is a really big victory, scoring four goals in an away game against a very good side like Nice is a big achievement from the team and we need to work hard to continue making them better and making a good evolution.

“I am very proud about what the players did today, but it is also what I expect.

“They showed a really good team performance, really good compactness and the right spirit, and we need to continue in that way the next couple of months.”

“Can this be another reference game? It has to be, I was disappointed after the weekend about the first half but in the second half we showed a lot of good things there.

“It was just not the day that we score with our occasions in that way and we need to keep on pushing and creating as many chances as possible and not giving away too much.

“The team is starting to gel together, they are starting to understand everything better and better but it is normal for some players two months together some three months together, and some four it is still a short time.

“It is good already to have this level in Europe and having 10 points is a very bright start and this will give a lot of hope to all our fans about the future of the club and the future of this squad.”

The boss was full of praise for forward Hamza Igamane, who bagged a brace on his first European start for the club.

He continued: “He is one of these young potentials that we brought in.

“In the summer he was injured, and he missed all the preparation so it is step by step making him stronger physically.

“He is making good steps that is why I gave him the chance for him to start today in this important game and he took the chance with two hands and that is what we want to see.”

The Light Blues will now head to Perth this Sunday to take on St Johnstone in Scottish Premiership action, and the manager wants the team to take the momentum from this evening into the fixture.

He added: “It is about taking the three points against St Johnstone and confirming this game.

“The players need to recover now fast; they need to do it well and to show their qualities on Sunday.

“That we can take these three points against St Johnstone who will be super motivated.

“That is now the important step to take with the group, not to go in satisfaction every three days because that is what Rangers is about.

“That is what I know, that is what I want and demand to be there every time, every three days and then we can have a really good season.”
