Cercle de Bruges won 2-0 against Heart of Midlothian. The team is temporarily back in the top 8 of the Conference League.
The last few weeks have once again been trying for the Cercle de Bruges. Despite some encouraging matches, defeats against Anderlecht and Standard saw the team return to the bottom four of the standings.
Miron Muslic’s men, however, found a smile again in the Conference League. Despite a lot of changes, to put priority on the championship, the Groen en Zwart opened the scoring with a slightly deflected left shot from Malamine Efekele five minutes from the end of the first half.
A stressful second half
The visitors then put the Bruges defense to the test in the second act, chaining attacks around the rectangle. They thought they would be rewarded when the referee pointed to the penalty spot.
But former Beerschot player Lawrence Shankland missed sending his ball into the stands. Very strong warning for the Cercle, who held their lead until the end and even scored 2-0 in the last moments thanks to Gary Magnee.
Thanks to this victory, and while awaiting the results of the 9 p.m. matches, Bruges return to seventh place in the standings, they have the best goal average among the teams at seven points. Even if they will undoubtedly leave this famous top 8 at the end of the day, it is one more step towards the top 24.
