Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi has indicated that he is not desperate to win the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award.
The Paris Saint Germain (PSG) full-back is up against Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams for the prestigious accolade.
Widely regarded as one of the best full-backs in the world, Hakimi helped PSG win the French Ligue 1 and Coupe de France in 2024, while also scooping Bronze with Morocco at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The 26-year-old, who has scored 10 goals in 82 caps for Morocco, pointed out that if he doesn’t win the award he would remain proud of the nomination.
“It’s a source of pride and satisfaction, especially knowing that the work I’ve been doing for a long time will be rewarded with this nomination,” Hakimi told Brut via maliactu.net.
“It’s true that it’s an important trophy on an individual level, but I’m happy to be here, “I hope I can win it, but if not, I’m happy to be here, and it makes me want to keep working”
Hakimi finished second behind winner Victor Osimhen for Nigeria in the battle for the 2023 CAF Player of the Year award.
