Did the telephone exchange really go well? On his Truth Social platform, Wednesday, November 27, Donald Trump reported a “wonderful conversation” with the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum. The Mexican leader, for her part, considered that the exchange with the billionaire had been “excellent”.
Claudia Sheinbaum was much less appreciative of Donald Trump's other statements. The recent winner of the US presidential election wrote on Truth Social that the president had “agreed to end immigration through Mexico into the United States“.
“Mexico will prevent people from traveling to our southern border, starting immediately,” he continued in another message, assuring that this measure would “go a long way to putting an end to the illegal invasion of United States,” Donald Trump also said.
Claudia Sheinbaum counterattacked on the social network X (formerly Twitter). “We reiterate that Mexico's position is not to close borders, but to build bridges between governments and between peoples“, wrote the Mexican president in particular.
This exchange comes a few days after Donald Trump's threats. The latter recently announced that he wanted to increase customs tariffs on imports from China, Canada and Mexico. The septuagenarian's inauguration ceremony will take place on January 20, 2025 in Washington.
